NIST INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

| Bangkok, Thailand The first full, not-for-profit IB World School in Thailand

Our initiative is to create a sustainable farm-garden up on the roof as well as providing organic produce to our NIST community. There are a variety of jobs, suitable for everyone, including building, creating and planting. This creates not only opportunities but also new experiences for students, teachers and staffs to interact with nature and learn how plants/garden works. We also have displayed our very own “farmers market” near the front of the gate where you can go support us by buying our organic grown vegetables.

Our Profile

Our initiative is to create a sustainable farm-garden up on the roof as well as providing organic produce to our NIST community. There are a variety of jobs, suitable for everyone, including building, creating and planting. This creates not only opportunities but also new experiences for students, teachers and staffs to interact with nature and learn how plants/garden works. We also have displayed our very own small “farmers market” near the front of the gate where you can go support us by buying our organic grown vegetables (note that our rooftop is currently under construction and therefore we unfortunately do not provide any vegetables at the moment).

Which UN Sustainable Development Goals Do We Support?

To provide a clear context for the aims of service groups at NIST, we align our projects to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). “The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. The SDGs work in the spirit of partnership and pragmatism to make the right choices now to improve life, in a sustainable way, for future generations.” This NIST group supports the following goals:

Sustainability & Transparency

All NIST service groups are held to our community’s high standards and values: integrity, caring, community and growth.

Vegetable sales (THB)

The funds we raise go back into producing better produce for the community, creating a sustainably cycle between consumer and product.

LONG-TERM GOALS

To incorporate the rooftop garden into the school curriculum in a much more formal way than what we have at the moment. To design/build/include sitting areas/teaching spaces on the rooftop. To provide vegetables to not only to parents and staff, but also to the school cafeteria.

Expenses Breakdown

95% of all funds and resources raised have been directly funneled to the beneficiary communities.

Anonymous, Customer

Rooftop garden has provided me fresh cheap organic produce ranging from basil leaves to yard long beans. As a consumer, I am really grateful of the garden as it allows me to be well informed of where the origin of my vegetables. Additionally, as a consumer, I also feel like I am contributing in promoting sustainability, although not physically, but from supporting and buying their produce. I really hope the rooftop garden will continue their extensive project.

ANONYMOUS, STUDENT IN ECA

I am developing skills on how to garden and take care of different plants as well as how to organize money and created products using our produce. I also further developed my skills in marketing and communication because of the frequent booths that we hold at events.
