NIST INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

| Bangkok, Thailand The first full, not-for-profit IB World School in Thailand

To provide authentic honey to the NIST community, while ensuring substantial economic growth for local farmers, and the sustainable future for honey bees in Thailand.

Our Profile

We are a group of students from NIST International School who have dedicated ourselves to creating a bond and fulfilling the dreams of children living with HIV. We work with a HIV orphanage in Lopburi called Baan Gerda to ensure that the children feel accepted in the world.

Because children’s immune systems are not fully developed, children living with HIV get sick more severely than adults. They may experience the same common pediatric infections as HIV-negative children, but cannot fight these infections as effectively. In developing countries in particular, tuberculosis, diarrhea, and respiratory illnesses are common in HIV-positive children. Children often face other issues related to living with HIV disease, including, family issues, bullying and medication adherence. As children age into adolescence they may also begin to face issues regarding sex and physical appearance. Dreams we Believe in seeks to help children living with or affected by AIDS mitigate some of these issues by enabling days of play and friendship.

Which UN Sustainable Development Goals Do We Support?

To provide a clear context for the aims of service groups at NIST, we align our projects to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). “The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. The SDGs work in the spirit of partnership and pragmatism to make the right choices now to improve life, in a sustainable way, for future generations.” This NIST group supports the following goals:

Sustainability & Transparency

All NIST service groups are held to our community’s high standards and values: integrity, caring, community and growth.

Long-Term Goals

Our long term goal is to ensure the Thailand bee population sees a sustainable increase in the coming few years, and the number of economically stable honey farmers increases accordingly.

%

Expenses Breakdown

95% of all funds and resources raised have been directly funneled to the beneficiary communities.

Khun Chai

Khun Chai is a beekeeper based in Khao Yai. He has been farming honey for over 20 years, but after retiring from his job as a construction worker, honey became his #1 priority. We became in touch with him through a NIST parent who connected us together. By supporting his honey farming, we are able to reach a larger market in Bangkok and open up more opportunities for future growth with Khun Chai’s honey. Since YellowNIST started, our local supplier in Khao Yai has increased his time and enjoyment spent farming honey from native asian honeybees, and he’s been able to live with a sustainable economic future ahead of him.
